The dos and don'ts of cleaning your steel window and door fittings

Naturally occurring oils from hands or dirt can easily be transferred to your hardware, causing tarnishing or a misty look to your finish over time.

You’ve invested in the best fittings for your windows or doors but how do you make sure that they stay looking and working their best?

Do use a soft cloth with warm, soapy water, gently wipe to preserve your furnishings.

If the internal locking mechanism of your windows or doors becomes tight, a small amount of light oil can be used to lubricate the locking handle. Our wedges and hinges are manufactured in a natural brass
– A material well known for its ‘self-cleaning’ abilities. If any spillages or marks occur, wipe them down with a damp cloth only.

Don't use abrasive cleaners like bleach, rough cloths or wire wool on your hardware. These methods can scratch or damage the finish.

Newly plastered property?

Dust particles left over from plastering can travel via the air to land on surfaces - including your hardware.

Unfortunately, this also means that dust particles can end up inside your window or door locking systems, corroding them due to the chemicals within the plaster. To prevent damage to your hardware, wipe them clean with a damp cloth as soon as possible, taking care not to rub the plaster dust into the fittings.
